Over the past few years, I've been hearing a lot about swinging and swing clubs, and freaking, and swingblack.com. At one time in my life {when I was young and dumb}, I believed that swinging was a society of individuals heavily populated by white people. However, as I have found out recently, there is a large concentration of this alternative lifestyle amongst African Americans.
In the DC Metro area I have found this to be exceptionally true. With locations in and around Prince Georges and Montgomery Counties, these individuals indulge themselves in hedonistic and sybaritic pleasures of sight, taste, feel, smell, and sound!
The more the I researched and delved into the innerworkings of this society, the more intrigued I became. I have always had an interest in attending one. I'm told by friends that indulge themselves in this activity, that one may attend, without participating. GREAT! I would like to go and see how this "secret society" of grown and sexy {not} folks interact with one another.
Just recently, I had a conversation with a gentleman whom used to be active within the MD/DC/VA area of black swingers. And while I admit my ideas on this lifestyle had been influenced and romantically by my own ideals and the movies Trois, Trois 2: Pandora's Box, I was told that it was not the case.
"...swinging has kept my wife and I together... its not for
everyone, people should not judge those that are in the "life"... BigDaddy, 9-9-05
In my mind I saw a dark room, lighted by thousands of candles scattered throughout with upscale red and black velvet furniture for which to lie upon and to get our groove on. I imagined people gyrating to the sounds of Prince, Maxwell, and other noted soulful balladeers crooning out tunes to the massive sea of undulating bodies. See, I romanticized a very basic act, when in fact, I'm told it is what it is. People having sex and enjoying that act. There is no love involved in that. There are, though, a lot of married couples, and people involved in committed relationships that have attested to the fact that it has helped to keep their marital sex hot, and has aided in keeping them together.
I was one of those people that judged, but I was young. Now that I'm older, I'm curious. If I went, would I participate or would I sit back in awe of being there. Seeing people have sex in front of my face. To be honest, I would get a kick out that, because I am a voyeur, I like watching porn, so why not see it live, up close, and in color? Some would say we should never indulge in "unnatural" pleasures of the flesh. That its wrong and against God, but to that I would say, they haven't read the Book of Solomon. It is the most sensuous and erotic book in the bible. But that's a whole other topic...{those so called Christians}...
But I digress...how many of us are interested in swinging? Maybe your curious as to what goes one, who does what to whom. Do you think this lifestyle is healthy? If not, why or why not?
I am so very interested to see how the opinion of the women vary from that of the men. Will the disparity be as different as I believe? We'll see...
