Trust Yourself ...You Know More Than You Think

"Trust yourself. You know more than you think you do." Dr. Spock That is a quote that people should always remember when it comes to all of their relationships. The relationship with your siblings, spouse, parents, children, family, and friends. Those are the most important relationships that you have in your life. We cultivate them. We nuture them. We instill values, principles, and morals in them. It is a quote that even I struggle to remember, but I remember, because trust is an important and imperitive part of all of my relationships. According to Merriam-Webster trust is a: assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something b : one in which confidence is placed The internet craze has placed our society on information overload. Too many of us place a confidence in what it is we find on the internet. Especially when it comes to finding love online. The billion dollar business of online dating is growing expone...

Virtual Dating or VD - The Deadly Internet Dating Disease

Virtual Dating or VD is a term adopted by myself and the women in my circle when it comes to dating. Virtual Dating is the process of dating via email, instant message, and texting- only. It's the lazy man's way of attempting to procure a relationship with a woman, through various portal's of media, that are increasingly less personal. There is nothing less personal than a text message, an email, or even an instant message--after you have gone through the initial process of the "getting to know you phase". Yes, these avenues are used when initially dealing with a person, as a getting to know you process. Some have used it for other nefarious reasons of sending photo's of there genitalia to prospective suitors. However, in the beginning, at times it is easier to say what you will via a less personal method, as it allows one to "take in" so to speak what you said. It is less invasive, because you do not see the reaction to someone saying "I have ...

The Continuing Saga of - TIGER GATE

I'd promised myself that I would not succumb to the niggardom of this entire personal debacle of Tiger Woods. This whole public outrage of "how dare he" or "how could he" is just amazing to me. From the likes of noted celebrity attorney, Gloria Allred who called his apology a “staged public stunt” http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/19/gloria-allred-tiger-woods_n_469184.html , to the tricks who actually were integral in “kissing and telling” honestly pisses me off. Folks are screaming for his head like Marie Antoinette, in such a hypocritical matter, appalled me! They should be outraged for the Catholic Priest preying on the altar boys, or for the Child Pedophiles who molest and damage children, but no they are upset over a grown ass man who just couldn’t keep his penis in his pants. Is it Tiger’s fault that women are attracted to money, fame, and power? Is it his fault that they prostituted themselves just to say “I slept with Tiger Woods”? The women that Eld...

Cheaters Never Win

If 2009 was deemed the year of infidelity, then I fear what 2010 may become. We say that in jest and/or as a joke, but seriously, let’s look at the number of people in the news for not being able to keep themselves to themselves. If you want to call a spade a spade, I would have to say honestly, that I don’t feel sorry for any person, be it male of female who allows their skin hunger take over their better judgment. Why should I sympathize with a woman who knowingly decides to have an affair, become a mistress who whatever term you want to call it, and then when she finds out that she wasn’t the only woman he was involved with, she wants to be the scorned woman? What type of attitude is that? I don’t feel sorry for “the other woman” because IMO that is the price you pay. Payment for being a mistress is the probability (and the odds are high) that you are not the only woman in his life that he deals with outside of his marriage. You get what you get when you decide to go down that pat...

What Happened To My Village...?

On my drive to work this morning...I got to thinking about my community and how I was raised and the things that I as a child was mindful of and respectful of, and it got me to thinking about my community and what happened to it? Back in the day we were so very respectful of our elders. We didn't curse or act out in front of them as we knew word of how we acted in the street would reach our house before we did. That was something you never wanted to have happen. I can remember getting upset because my mother would always, without a doubt believe another adult over my siblings or I. Even when that adult would not tell the entire truth just to see us punished, and back then my mother would get a belt, lecture you for an hour then beat your ass and after that you got your dinner and went to bed. Sometimes, the sun would still be shining and our friends would be outside laughing at us because we got in trouble. Then I didn't like it, but now I understand it and feel that I am a bet...

Literary Conferences...

As many people know I am an author, self published and an award winning author. But there have been several things going on in the literary world that have been bothering me and I need to get them off of my chest. One of the main things that I take issue with are all of these so-called literary conferences that pop up all over the nation and are put on my loddy, dottie and everybody! I don't want to knock anyone's hustle, I just have to question the motives and/or sincerity behind their "business". With all of the mail that floods my inbox regarding various conferences across the US, has anyone stopped to ask the advisors and/or conference sponsors how many attendees they expect and/or have had in the past? What are the average sales secured from participants? I ask this question because several factors come into play for myself regarding any/all conferences or events...travel expense- i.e. air/ground transportation, hotel, meals, shipping costo to ship display, produ...

Fear and Love...

It has been a while since I last posted to my blog(s)…the reason for that is that I am way too busy. Not only am I writing my books, I am an internet radio talk show host ( www.blogtalkradio.com/sassyentertainment ), as well as an internet web-show host ( www.iseecolorlive.tv ). Yet, more importantly, I have been doing a lot of self reflection. Reflecting on my issues with fear and love. What I realized is that I have been “in like” plenty of times in my life, but the last time I was in love, was over 15 years ago. Amazing, that it has been so long, but I had to stop and wonder why? As SassyScribe, I am always stating that women need to sit back and take stock of situations. They should learn something valuable from every relationship that they have been involved in. That is what I have done…and it was a sad revelation for me. See, the man that I was in love with, was a good person, but not the right man. The man I fell in love with was funny as hell, a loving son, and very smart…sma...

My Issue W/The Black Church...

I have to begin this blog with the caveat that I am a very spiritual person, and I have accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior...however, I do not attend church because of the vast number of hypocrites within. I'm sorry, I have to keep it real and I want to know why is it that the Black church IMO takes the Bible and bastardizes it for various reasons? You know I've always wondered why Black churches aren't flourishing financially as some others are. I'm not talking about the megachurches, because they get their money because I think they get it..they are about making that paper and at sometimes I view it as a "by any means necessary" mindset to do that. If that means they have to have a banquet and serve - horrors of horrors - WINE with their meal then its done. The bottomline is usually the bottom line. I look at the cluster of churches in my area and I see how the people react to different things and different situations especially when it comes to secul...

Marriage is for White People?

Three years ago I read an article in the Washington Post by Joy Jones entitled “Marriage is for White People” and the article talked to adolescent children who claimed that marriage was for white people. It went on to state various statistics, i.e. since the 1960’s the marriage rate for African American’s has continued to drop. Statistics such as this and others of its ilk about Black women and the Black community prompted me to ask why is it that marriage is not preached, instilled, taught, or encouraged in our community. Having grown up in a two parent household, whose parents are still alive and together, I witnessed love, struggle, trials, and tribulations. I witnessed infidelity and counseling, and two people working together to create, grow, build, learn, and love---together. It is the reason why I believe in the sanctity of marriage. I believe in standing before God and repeating vows to merge your lives into one. I believe in the sacrament of the vows. What I don’t believe ...

Why I Intensely Dislike Insecure Women...My Friday Morning VENT!

This morning on the way to work I performed my usual routine of stopping at Starbucks for my morning joe and when I got back into my car, my phone was ringing. Of course I’m a woman with a huge purse so you all know that the phone is in the bottom of the bag and not in the cell phone slot inside. So as I rummage inside for the phone and finally get it, my hand mistakenly hit the answer button…so I say hello and a woman’s voice say’s “hello” so I say hello again and she says who is this…immediately I get offended. Did you or did you not call me???? So I hung up and when I did, I noticed the number was restricted…so I immediately think back to the last few weeks and the number of networking and social events I have attended and dissiminated my card. I have also had some conversations with individuals regarding business…yes the said individuals were and are men…so my immediate thought is “what insecure wife/girlfriend found my card, possibly viewed a bill, and/or simply went through her m...

Dating After 40...

Who knew that the dating game would change so drastically over the last twenty years? So many factors play into what changed the game and I feel that the number factor was the internet? The internet made it easier for shy, introverted, sometimes unattractive, uninspiring, lazy, physically disabled and in some instances obese individuals the opportunity to meet a potential love match online. I know what I said is not politically correct, but it’s the ugly truth. On the other hand, it also made it easier for that busy executive and/or a workaholic, single parents, and newly single individuals to find a love match as well. Let’s face facts it’s a helluva lot easier to point, click, accept or reject via the anonymity of the internet as opposed to attending a singles event such as speed dating or a singles meet and greet. Sidebar: 35,000 people meet and marry online every year…which I am sure will give some folks hope. Ideally no one thought and/or believed they would be single again and/o...

What Turns You On?

What turns a man on the most? Is it the sight of a naked woman? A nearly naked woman? Or a woman fully sheathed in a berka? Ladies, we all know that it doesn't take alot to turn a man on...regardless of your weight, and/or dimensions, your man sees something in you to begin with. So lets dispense with the shyness, the meekness, the hot & cold reactions we throw out to men and do something, anything different to turn him on! Hell, you may find out that you will get turned on in the process. Here is a sample of what I think will turn people on... 1. Sexually Explicit Conversation - hearing what a man/woman is going to do to you is the beginning of foreplay. 2. Using the 5 Senses - creating and setting a mood, that stimulates your five core senses...fragrant body oils, scented rose petals, erotic massages, scented baths, sexy lingerie & sensual foods. 3. Fantasy Fulfillment - there is nothing like telling your mate your fantasy, the bonus is that they are willing to help yo...

My Thoughts About the BET 2009 Awards Show

On June 25, 2009, a mother lost her son, three children lost their father, a family lost a loved one, and the world lost an icon in the music and entertainment industry. Michael Joseph Jackson’s death was a shock to us all, so when I heard that BET was going to include a tribute to MJ in their 2009 BET Awards show, I was excited and anxiously awaited an awards show as I did when I was a teenager. To be honest, I had no intentions of viewing the show, because the past couple of award shows that I watched were just too ghetto for me to stomach. When the show started at I was like, “YES”, Boyz To Men back together AND singing an MJ tune, now that is what I was looking forward to seeing. I just knew that BET was going to move mountains and make it happen…but they didn’t. I mean its Hollywood, and in Hollywood money talks…but obviously not at BET. What I witnessed is the main reason why I stopped watching BET over fifteen years ago…long before it sold and after they released Tavis Smiley, I...

Why I Have A "Dudetality"...

I’ve been told by some men that I have met that I “think like a dude”, and that statement made me laugh, because I do have a “dudetality”. I am surrounded by women that have a “dudetality” and that’s alright! For those that don’t know me, I am outspoken and opinionated. I am very direct and at times I don’t have a filter between my brain and my tongue. I understand that it’s not what I say, but how I say it, however, I feel like people are coddled too damn much at times and they need to hear it straight with no chaser. Why pretty the words up or delay the blow? Some people try to play dumb and act like they don’t know and/or understand the words that are coming out of your mouth, especially if you’re being “nice” about it. Some people need to hear it in a rough manner in order for them to see the stupidity of their ways. For example…a few years ago I remember coming home and one of my sister’s girlfriends had stopped past for a visit. I did not care for this girl, so when I came in, I ...

Excerpt from Sassy's Rules of Dating

Excerpt from forthcoming book... Sassy’s Rules of Dating 2009© SassyScribe (Saundra E. Harris) Saphari Books, Inc. The first rule of dating is to go on the date with no expectations. We as women set ourselves up when we go on a date with this mindset. Keep an open mind. Be charming and friendly. Do not send a representative in your stead, be your self, because any act or sham will come out later. Again this is something that took me four years to learn. When I date, I go on the date with one expectation, and that is to have fun. I enjoy the food, the conversation, the laughter, or whatever it is he has planned for the evening. Even if there is no love connection, I have opened up my life to a possible new acquaintance. There are some tried and true questions that one should ask on a date, most especially a first date. Truth be told, some questions should’ve been asked in advance. I firmly believe that when you meet a person, you can find out some things in the first twenty minutes o...

Dating Is Easy...

God blessed I love FB and all other social networking sites, because it allows me to be Sassy and speak my mind on topics I love... but most importantly it is a vessel that is allowing me to speak to women about their hangups and stupidty when it comes to men, dating, sex, and relationships. Yes, I said stupidity...it looks as if some of them are getting dumber and more desparate as they get older. You know when I hear them saying the same things over and over adnauseum it makes my teeth itch. Why? Why is it that women have not learned from their mistakes? Why are they still asking the same damn questions over and over...how do I know if he likes me, is he only after sex...why is he lying to me, why does't he want to spend time with me...WTF I can't take it anymore...Ladies, dating is so very easy...we have been blessed with a third eye and an uncanny intuition that talks to us everyday. Not just on matters of the heart but on all matters that involve, money, our children, our ...

Sign O’ the Times…

In 2006 Senator Barack Obama announced his candidacy to campaign for the 2008 Presidential election. The world witnessed the outcome of such an historic moment, and as an African American I was never more proud than if he was a member of my family. It showed me that after eight years of idiocracy and nepotism and just bad decisions coming from the GOP and the Bush administration, that the nation was ready for a change. The nation was abuzz with the fact that there had not been such a ground swell of support for a presidential candidate since President John F. Kennedy. Slowly, the old guard began to see that this young Black man was representative of what many felt…and they believed that he was the change we all needed. However, the right-wing had a field day, calling President Obama a rock star, and then when he went on his European tour prior they dubbed him the Messiah. At that time I shrugged off all comments about Obama being the Messiah, or when folks referred to him as “the secon...
